Bringing it all the way back, Penji is about the people, man! Our community is everything. We have a defined structure that helps each role grow, supported by their peers.
As tutors, it's important that you interact and help one another. Teaching isn't an easy job - sessions can go wrong, marketing can be hard, and to top it all off you're a student yourself! Our tutors help each other in all of these areas.
We're going to pair your with a tutor mentor, aka your very own Penji Pal. This will be an experienced tutor in our community, someone who will pay special attention to your growth. They can help with all things Penji, but also in other areas of life. Both of you are interesting, driven, and successful people in your own rights - share your experiences and be there for each other. It's a really cool part of being on Penji.
Your Penji Pal will also set up three coffee meetings between you and other tutors. Each tutor on Penji is a top student at your school, one with a great personality and big dreams. It's a great opportunity to get to know future leaders in all fields. These meetings will be coordinated over the first few months.
Finally, we use a service called Slack to help our tutors communicate. It's a great tool that organizes conversations around topics like #session-stories or #teaching-tips. You can also direct message members. Please join slack and say hi! We encourage each tutor to share their first session experience in #session-stories. Detailed instructions on Slack here.
So that's it! You're up to speed. The next step is your first 1-on-1 with your Penji Pal. They will reach out to say hi and set that up. During that 1-on-1, you can talk through all five of these videos and hash out questions or concerns. Never hesitate to reach out to them for guidance or just to hang out. Once you've done the 1-on-1, you're cleared to teach. Have fun, and we're here for you if you ever need anything! Like seriously. Anything.
OK, Rach-dawg out.
